Very impressive product September 2, 2008 chris (london, UK) 192 out of 193 found this review helpful
I was a little sceptical about this product. I tried an earlier version of dragon's software about five years ago, and I wasn't impressed by the speed or accuracy of the particular package that I used.
However, I've been absolutely blown away by Dragon version 10. I installed the Standard version on my XP machine about one hour ago and, after running through some very simple training exercises, I have been able to dictate entire paragraphs of text with virtually no errors. In fact, I have just been able to dictate this entire review in significantly less time than it would have taken me to type it by hand (i'm a reasonably proficient typist, averaging around 40-50 wpm).
Overall, I am delighted with my purchase, and I wholeheartedly recommend Dragon version 10.
(edit: I should mention that I use a desktop USB microphone from Logitech, as I found the free headset to be a little uncomfortable).
It works August 24, 2008 Geoff Anderson (Dollar, Scotland) 31 out of 31 found this review helpful
I was using this effectively within 1 hour of installation by the second day I was creating 600 word documents quickly and with few errors which were easily corrected. Voice Recognition Software now works. I will never be without it now! I will buy a more comfortable headset with noise cancelling - the included set works fine but was too tight for my head.
Very pleased, it even works within World of Warcraft August 21, 2008 AndysBest 1` (West Yorkshire) 70 out of 71 found this review helpful
I bought this version in helping me with certain issues I have as regards typing and other things as I have disabilities which is the main reason for my purchase, in fact I am writing this review with this software. I also found to my surprise that I can use it while I am playing world of Warcraft as it started a game for me and I was able to use in game chat while playing the game. So in retrospect this version actually does more than what it's capable of &what it specifications says it can do.
So all in all this has been a very good purchase so much it has given me more freedom and flexibility than the previous version did. So even buying the standard version you get more than what you think in what it controls as far as applications, games etc. I don't think, you'll find better software out there that can do as much as this software for the price.
I received this software 12:00 today and as you can see how easily and quickly it is adapted to my voice.
Better Than Expected Naturally... February 21, 2009 shaz17 (England) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
On opening the box I removed the headset with the microphone attached. I found this very comfortable. Before installation I had to restart my computer and I also turned off my virus protection software otherwise this software wouldn't have installed correctly.
After that it was smooth sailing, it isn't quick installation it seemed to go on for about 20 minutes or so. And then when it came to the voice recognition part I found this quite exciting and it also made me realise that I am a posh reader if I read aloud.
I'm doing this review with Dragon Naturally Speaking standard 10. Since I always spell check, I did notice one or two words not as I said them but this did not deter me from doing my review with this software. I like the fact that I can say full stop or comma or new paragraph and it does it for me. Because I like to write I'm going to find this software invaluable, it is going to be so much quicker dictating instead of typing.
I also added my daughter and we set up her settings to and she used this on her messenger to her friends, she thought it was hilarious. I must admit I was laughing listening to her. Even though my computer is XP and hers is Vista, until I get her laptop back from repairs I won't know if this works on hers as good as it does on mine, but I'm sure it will, but I heard that it doesn't work as well on Vista, but will wait and see.
In the box you get headset with microphone and audio. The disc and a user guide and also a quick start guide. I think this software would have helped me tremendously when I add my eyesight problem, I wasn't able to see the keyboard correctly so could not use my computer at that time, but this would have remedied that problem. This also would help people with dyslexia, I feel using this would be less frustrating for them. I like that I can read while I am speaking so I can see any mistakes that I may make.
I didn't find the headphones to cause bad audio, in fact the words I said were very near-perfect. But alas my daughter's wasn't as good as mine, I think this was because she doesn't pronounce her words correctly. I wouldn't say this software is 100% perfect, but I think it is wonderful and people who have who have RSI or bad eyesight will wonder how they ever did without this software.
I have a Yorkshire accent, not as broad as most but when I do is speak it is more pronounced, so this is probably why I don't have too many errors. After our morning of trying this software out on various different programs whether online or off-line, we found it fun and entertaining and turned a review writing session into a fun writing session. You can retrain this software so it types the word as you say and as you get better at using this, the less mistakes will occur. When saying certain names I found it was better to say 'Spell' and say it letter by letter then say ok and it appears in your document. The more you play and find things that this software has to offer the better you will get at using it, and the more fun you will have from it to.
I would have got Dragon Naturally Speaking a lot sooner if I ever been aware of this when I couldn't see to use the keyboard. It's not easy for me to say this but I think this version is actually worth the money and even though the more expensive ones are to pricey for some people that definitely need this software, to be able to afford, I would still recommend this cheaper version 100%.
Marvelous software at a marvelous price.
far better than expected November 12, 2008 M. J. Harris (Scotland) 52 out of 53 found this review helpful
I bought this product because I do a lot of Open University study at home. I opted for the cheap standard version because I was not expecting it to be particularly accurate. However I have been amazed by how few mistakes it makes. Even when it does make a mistake it is very easy to correct without using the keyboard at all, and the system genuinely seems to learn from its mistakes. When you correct it and then repeat the same word again it almost always get it right the second time and any future times. For £66, with a perfectly good headset microphone thrown in, this is a bargain, and if you do a lot of wordprocessing then it may just change your life!
I had no problems installing or registering the product on a laptop which cost £750 around nine months ago (ie: decent spec but nothing outrageous). My only caveat would be that I have a fairly neutral news reader type voice which I'm sure makes a difference. If you have a strong regional accent you may not have such a positive experience although you may well still be fine.
By the way, this review has been dictated into Dragon and I have only had to make two corrections.
